Week 10: Western Region

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Even though the temperatures make you feel like summer will last forever, the truth is that it’s starting to wind down. The days are getting shorter again, and even though it seems like it just began, we only have a few more weeks of One Local Summer left…

This week, Anita of Married…with Dinner is finally starting to see the fruits of her harvest. She wanted to keep it simple and let the ingredients shine, so she made a lovely Greek salad, which she served with local sausage.

Beany of The Middle Way made an all-local breakfast this week, of bread, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes and a strawberry smoothie. Sounds like a wonderful way to start the day.

And finally, Kathleen of Our Life in the Country made a mouthwatering meal of BBQ spare ribs that fell off the bone, paired with a bunch of CSA veggies that were tossed in olive oil and roasted.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the coming harvest will affect the last few weeks. I’m convinced that the increased availability of local ingredients will have my ladies making some really awesome meals.
