Midwest One Local Summer: Week 8

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

The Midwest contingent is small this week but we have a good deal of variety in our approaches to eating local.  Maybelle’s Mom made some pickled baby carrots.  She tells us about those and talks about waiting and pregnancy in her post for this week.  The carrots were the nesting that triggered the arrival of a new baby but they look delicious.  We wish her the very best with the impending arrival of Maybelle’s sibling.

Meanwhile over at EatWisconsin smoked lamb brats were on the menu along with some nontraditional toppings made from local ingredients.

Kaleidoscope Living made use of some four varieties of tiny potatoes (the ones about marble size) by roasting them with garlic, rosemary from her garden, onions and olive oil.  In a breakfast for dinner meal those potatoes were paired with local sausage and eggs.
